Drums – An essential part of modern day music. It is an instrument the sound of which makes you groove to the beats, and probably this is one of the most dynamic instruments when it comes to how actively the drummer gets involved with the drums.
What You'll Learn
Drumming may look very complex and strenuous but in reality this isn’t the case. Some form of drumming, beating, tapping and creating rhythm is an intrinsic part of our genetic and there is nothing surprising about it. Often you’ll see a baby clapping its hands creating rhythm, or a person sitting idle tapping their hands on the desk or on their thigh and shaking their body to a rhythm. Even a two year old child knows how to hit its feet on the ground and create a rhythm. Now, it’s time for you to take that innate quality to one step further and make others groove to the beats you create. With Sevenoctave you’ll learn:
- Basics of music
- Theory of drum music and reading drum notation
- Different styles of drumming like Latin, March, Blues, Reggae
- How to play Rock grooves
- Different rhythms that are played on drums
- Rudiments – the building blocks of drumming
- Playing popular songs
Important Skills to Master
Perfect Timing
One of the most important aspects of playing drums is maintaining a proper timing. A moment of bad timing will definitely derail the rhythm of music and distract all the other performers. On the contrary, good timing will help everyone in the group to create a synchronized music.
Right Groove
Timing is the layout of the beat, whereas groove is the ‘feeling’ of that beat. It’s the space in between the notes. What is important here is that the beats shouldn’t feel stiff; rather they should feel groovy and smooth.
Smooth Transition
A transition is the movement from one part of the song to another part of the song, from one groove to another groove or from one sound source to another sound source. A rough transition will create a lock up in the next groove.
